Isolated transceivers designed to operate in harsh industrial environments

Texas Instruments ISO141x Isolated Transceivers are galvanically-isolated differential line transceivers for TIA/EIA RS-485 and RS-422 applications. These noise-immune transceivers are intended to operate in hard industrial environments. The bus pins of these devices can withstand high levels of IEC ESD and IEC EFT events which exclude the need for further components on the bus for system-level protection. The devices are offered for both basic and reinforced isolation. These transceivers are employed for long distance communications. Isolation separates the ground loop between the communicating nodes, providing for a much larger common mode voltage range. The symmetrical isolation barrier of each device is tested to produce 5000VRMS of isolation for one minute per UL 1577 between the bus-line transceiver and the logic-level interface. The devices can operate from 1.71V to 5.5V on side one which enables the devices to be interfaced with low voltage FPGAs and ASICs. The wide supply voltage on side two from 3V to 5.5V removes the need for a regulated supply voltage on the isolated side. These devices support a wide operating ambient temperature range from –40C to +125C.
