The Texas Instruments OPA521 is a line-driver power amplifier that follows the power-line communications conducted emissions conditions in CENELEC bands A, B, C, and D and ARIB STD-T84 and FCC Part 15. This device provides up to 2.5A on high-current, low-impedance lines with reactive loads. With an optimized internal protection structure, the device uses the minimum external protection components that allow cost and space-effective systems. The device provides a closed-loop gain of –7V/V with 3.8MHz of bandwidth. The monolithic integrated circuit provides high reliability in power-line communication applications. The line driver runs with a single supply from 7V to 24V. At a typical load current (IOUT = 2.5A, maximum), a wide output swing gives a 10VPP capability with a nominal 24V supply. The device offers protection against overtemperature and short-circuit conditions. Fault detection flags display current and thermal limits. A shutdown pin is offered, which puts the device into a low-power state that consumes 58µA (typical). The device is offered in a surface-mount, 5mm x 5mm, 20-pin VQFN (RGW) package. The device operates over the extended industrial junction temperature range of –40C to +125C.
