Mouser is now stocking the BlueNRG-2 SoC from STMicroelectronics. The SoC is a power-efficient programmable processor with ultra-low-power features, high RF signal strength, and generous on-chip memory for Bluetooth low energy software and application code. The device is Bluetooth 4.2-compliant and Bluetooth 5.0-certified, which ensures interoperability with the latest generation of smartphones, and supports enhanced features such as state-of-the-art security, privacy, and extended packet length for faster data transfer. This company’s wireless SoC offers the same RF performance as the BlueNRG radio, but improves sleep mode current consumption for longer application battery lifetime. The SoC features a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M0 processor and a Bluetooth low energy radio for energy efficiency and strong radio performance. The device also includes 256kb of on-chip flash memory, allowing designers to embed both the Bluetooth low energy stack and the application code; 24kb of static RAM with retention (in two 12kb banks); and SPI, UART, I2C standard communication interface peripherals. The device benefits from an ultra-low-power design, including support for fast wake-up and sleep transitions, and a standby current of just 500nA. In addition to the device's excellent link budget up to 96 dB, RF-output power is boosted to +8dBm to ensure clear and reliable communication for optimum efficiency, even in noisy environments. The BlueNRG-2 SoC is compliant with a range of RF regulations, including ETSI EN 300 328, EN 300 440, FCC CFR47 Part 15, and ARIB STD-T66.
