The Grid-EYE evaluation kit from Panasonic combines the Grid-EYE IR array sensor with Bluetooth technology and software onto a single board. It is now available from RS Components. This combination of technologies enables you to prototype your own application quickly and easily. You can use the board in standalone mode or with an Arduino host board if you wish to have additional interfaces. The sensors are designed for proximity detection by an IR array sensor. This compact package features and 8 x 8 IR sensor array. Grid-EYE high precision sensors are based on advanced MEMS technology. They utilise a grid of IR sensors to detect the heat (IR rays) of the human body and other objects. The size of detection on the grid also determines the distance between the person and the sensor. For example, the smaller the detected area, the further away the person is and the larger the detected area, the closer the person is. The sensors are designed to work in applications to improve function and to save energy. They can be used for detection of human activity for air conditioning and lighting within an office or home environment. Alternatively they are ideal for sensing people at automatic doors and elevators.
