Mouser is now stocking the VIPer01 high-voltage converters from STMicroelectronics. Part of the VIPerPlus family of high-voltage converters based on the company’s Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) technology, the devices are offline, high-voltage AC/DC converters that integrate an 800V avalanche-rugged MOSFET with PWM current-mode control and multiple protection circuits.
Supporting flyback, buck, and buck-boost topologies, the converters feature an integrated high-voltage start-up and sense-FET, error amplifier and oscillator with jitter — all helping to minimise the number of external components required to design a complete application. With its robust feature set and ultra-low-power-consumption designed to meet stringent energy standards, the VIPer01 converters enable engineers to build simple and cost-effective switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) with a 5V output for use in home appliances, building control, lighting, motion control, and small industrial and consumer applications.
These high-voltage converters operate directly from a rectified mains supply and incorporate an 800V avalanche-rugged power MOSFET that allows for an ultra-wide VAC input range. The devices offer low power consumption and switch automatically to pulse frequency modulation (PFM) under light load conditions. On-board protection circuitry consists of drain-current limit, overload, short circuit, overvoltage and embedded thermal shutdown. Additionally, the devices include a built-in soft-start to improve system reliability, and offer a tailored auxiliary supply to microcontrollers in IoT applications that are permanently connected to the Internet or a local network.
Due to the converters’ low power consumption and automatic PFM operation under light load conditions, the device meets many stringent energy-saving standards, including U.S. Energy Star and the European EuP Lot 6 Tier 2 of the EC Ecodesign Directive. System input power consumption is less than 10 mW at 230VAC in a no-load condition, and less than 400mW at 230VAC with a 250mW load.
The converters are available in a 10-lead SSOP package, and are supported by two evaluation boards: The STEVAL-ISA177V1 is based on a non-isolated flyback converter and is jittered at 120kHz, whereas the STEVAL-ISA178V is based on a non-isolated buck converter and is jittered at 30kHz.
