PowerPax has extended its DC converter range with the addition of the PVxx-29Bxx series of isolated, ultra-wide input products. This series of products feature an input range of 200VDC – 1500VDC with 400VAC input to output isolation. They are available in 10W, 15W and 40W models with single, regulated, outputs of 5V, 12V, 15V and 24V. They feature a maximum efficiency of 80%, output voltage accuracy of ±2% typical with line (full load) and load regulation (0-100%) typically ±1%. Outputs feature low ripple and noise with a maximum of 300mV peak to peak (20Mhz bandwidth). To increase system safety and stability the modules have been provided with significant in-built protection systems including input under voltage protection which triggers at 170V-185V and is released at 180V-195V. The input is also protected from reverse polarity connection. Outputs feature continuous short circuit protection with self-recovery, over-current protection with auto recovery and over-voltage protection with a feedback clamp. The operating temperature range of this series is -40C to +70C (de-rating +50C to +70C) and the package is made from a black flame-retardant and heat resistant plastic that is UL94-V0 rated. Dimensions are 125mm x 75mm x 40mm and the modules are free air convection cooled. This series are designed to provide excellent system reliability and have an MTBF of > 300K hr’s (MIL-HDBK-217F @ 25C). In addition these modules are also suitable for high altitude applications with the ability to operate within specification up to 5000M. This product range has been designed with current photovoltaic system trends in mind with the ultra-wide input voltage of 200VDC-1500VDC going beyond the traditional standard system voltage maximum of 1000VDC in readiness for expected system voltages up to 1500VDC. The result of the increased input voltage is the ability of systems to utilise longer photovoltaic cell strings with fewer combiner boxes, less wiring and a subsequent reduction in system and installation costs. This series is well suited to applications such as photovoltaic combiners, photovoltaic inverters and high voltage switching but can also be utilised in any application where a stable output voltage is required from a high voltage DC input source.
