Compact new high-reliability surface-mount SPDT electromechanical switches

Fairview Microwave has introduced a new line of high-reliability SPDT surface mount electromechanical RF switches that cover broadband frequencies from DC to 8GHz. The new RF switches offer exceptional reliability and repeatable performance making them ideal for demanding industries and applications related to aerospace, defence, industrial, telecom, instrumentation, medical devices and many others. The new electromechanical single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switches are housed in compact surface-mount packages and are designed for 'high-rel' performance rated for 2 million life cycles minimum. They incorporate either failsafe or latching actuators. Features include a temperature range of -40C to +85C, a maximum CW power rating of 400W, high isolation up to 50dB and insertion loss as low as 0.1dB. Operating voltage is +24VDC. The package assembly is fully RoHS compliant and the bottom side consists of a gold-plated PWB mounting surface designed to resist the effects of oxidation for ease of soldering. Assembly instructions and downloadable PWB layout software are available from the website. Another key feature with the package design is the ability to withstand exposure to MIL-STD-202 test conditions for sine and random vibration as well as mechanical shock, says the company. “This innovative lineup of high power surface mount SPDT electromechanical switches is available from stock and offers designers the same level of exceptional performance and high reliability as with more traditional coaxial switches,” said Brian McCutcheon, vice president and general manager, Fairview Microwave. “The miniature package design features a gold plated mounting surface that resists oxidation and can easily be solder-mounted onto a PCB.”
