The extension of the voltage range of its popular high-power TVS (PTVS) diode PTVS3 product series has been announced by Bourns. The new 15V bidirectional high-current PTVS diodes are designed to meet the protection needs of DC power supplies and power management systems with 12V batteries. The PTVS3-015C-TH devices offer bidirectional port protection meeting IEC 61000-4-5 8/20µs current surge requirements. When compared to typical competing MOV technology, the use of Bourns’ innovative silicon technology in the Power TVS products provides a lower clamping voltage under surge, greater performance stability and increased reliability, says the company. “Based on customer demands, Bourns added the new lower 15 V PTVS model to our line-up giving exposed and/or harsh environment power supplies the protection they need,” said Ben Huang, product line manager, Bourns, Inc. “What makes these new devices ideal is that they exhibit an excellent surge response versus temperature where the maximum surge current at 150 °C exceeds 70% of their rated value at 25C.”
