The Perini Business Park in Brazil, a leading 2.8 million m² commercial hub, has embarked on a transformative journey with SKIDATA, an international leader in the field of access solutions and their management, and ASUS IoT, a sub-brand of ASUS dedicated to the creation of incredible solutions in the fields of AI and IoT. This collaboration, initiated by ASUS IoT, aimed to automate and streamline the park's previously manual access control and parking management systems. Using Macnica DHW on the distribution and integration side, this end-to-end IoT solution by SKIDATA has revolutionised these operations, marking a significant step in the park's evolution into a technologically advanced hub.

"We were delighted to be onboarded into the ASUS AIoT Partner Alliance Program and to have the possibility to benefit from the expertise of ASUS IoT, while bringing value to this project with our experience of having been responsible for more than 8,500 parking management installations in 100 countries. Together, we can co-create an innovative access control and parking management system." said Thomas Pühringer, Senior Director at SKIDATA.

Streamlining Parking Management with Edge Computing

SKIDATA's comprehensive traffic and revenue management solutions have been pivotal in this transformation. Their technology integrates traffic flow with financial transactions, enhancing user experience and operational efficiency. This deployment showcases the potential of edge computing in optimising complex commercial operations, particularly in large-scale environments like The Perini Business Park.

The Smart Access Control and Parking Management Solution co-developed by ASUS IoT and SKIDATA enables:

  • Fast access to the site, in under 15 seconds, based on vehicle license plate recognition
  • Improved parking management of over 4,500 vehicles a day, resulting in better capacity utilization
  • Valuable statistical insights for business park management
  • Scalable solution to include real-time occupancy detection
  • Enhancing the experience of over 10,000 visitors and guests throughout the day

ASUS IoT: Bridging Technologies for Urban Efficiency

ASUS IoT spearheaded the project, leveraging their expertise in cutting-edge hardware and software development. They brought to the table a comprehensive suite of IoT products and AI solutions, anchored by an IPC-grade platform designed for enduring deployment. ASUS IoT's role in connecting access control technology with parking facility management has been crucial and their expertise in integrating different technological domains has resulted in a cohesive and efficient system, tailored to meet the specific needs of The Perini Business Park.

The actual project was initiated by long-time partner Manica DHW, the global technology distributor and service solution provider, and further exemplifies ASUS IoT's network of partners and capabilities in creating unified solutions that enhance urban spaces' functionality and efficiency.

The Impact of Collaborative Engineering in Smart City Solutions

The collaboration between SKIDATA and ASUS IoT at The Perini Business Park serves as a model for smart city development. It highlights the necessity of multidisciplinary approaches in creating integrated solutions for urban environments. This case study is particularly instructive for design engineers, demonstrating the potential of collaborative efforts in developing efficient, sustainable urban spaces.

Silvia Kuo, Director of Business Development and Partnerships for EMEA at ASUS IOT said "This project showcased the power of partnership, and we are exploring some big opportunities together. Creating these seamless access experiences with exciting technologies such as facial and number plate license recognition depends on advanced computer devices and AI algorithms. We, therefore, look forward to continuing working with SKIDATA in an integrated way."

The transformation of The Perini Business Park, driven by SKIDATA, Manica DHW and ASUS IoT, sets a new benchmark in smart city development. This project, discussed in full detail in the above episode of the Electropages Podcast with ASUS IOT and SKIDATA, exemplifies the effective application of IoT, edge computing, and AI in managing and optimizing large-scale commercial spaces. As urban areas continue to evolve, the integration of these technologies will be crucial in shaping efficient, sustainable, and intelligent environments. This development presents both challenges and opportunities for design engineers, highlighting the potential of technology to enhance urban life.
