Smallest ToF sensor delivers big benefits in object detection and distance measurement

BAUMER has introduced what is claimed to be the smallest ToF sensor specifically developed for applications with limited installation space. The new versatile and reliable OT200 ToF sensor measures only 8mm x 25.1mm x 5.8mm and is designed to deliver outstanding performance, even in the most space-restricted and challenging conditions.

The OT series sensor offers a large detection range of up to 2.5m and a minimum response time of 4ms, delivering reliable detection of light-absorbing and reflective surfaces, even when the process involves ultra-black, shiny, or reflective objects. It has a measuring range of up to 2m, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

The sensor is designed to provide consistently high performance, regardless of the shape, structure, or material of the object being detected. Thanks to the Baumer Sensor Suite software, operation is easy, and parameterisation is intuitive.

Potential applications include AGVs, which are crucial for today’s industrial logistics, where sensors play a key role in their efficient operation.

One example is the fork width, which must be set exactly to the pallet width. The ultra-compact OT200 is ideal, as it fits faultlessly in the limited space of the fork. It can be directly mounted on the central suspension to ensure precise monitoring of fork width.

Additionally, it serves as a smart reflect light barrier in tight spaces, such as moving inner parts of a machine or apparatus. It also functions as an ejection control for an arm in automated order-picking systems used in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, or vending machine applications.
