SiP module for smart home applications

Mouser now offers the ZGM230S Z-Wave 800 SiP module from Silicon Labs. Built on its low-power Wireless Gecko platform, the next-generation Z-Wave 800 device allows rapid development of energy-efficient, long-range interoperable Z-Wave mesh network solutions for smart home IoT devices, including hubs, security, sensors, lighting, door locks, and HVAC. The module supplies developers with sub-GHz connectivity for Z-Wave Mesh and Z-Wave Long Range with over 50% greater battery life than the Z-Wave 700 series.

The SiP module is based on the EFR32ZG23 SoC. The 6.5mm × 6.5mm module includes a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 core with 512KB of flash (64KB of application flash memory), native security stack using its Secure Vault technology, and highly integrated sub-GHz transceiver and crystal, decoupling, and matching to offer a complete Z-Wave solution that needs only an external antenna. Created with low-power Gecko technology, which comprises innovative low-energy techniques, fast wake-up times, and energy-saving modes, the module lowers overall power consumption. It maximises battery life – offering up to ten years on a single coin-cell battery.

Also offered is the Silicon Labs’ Z-Wave 800 Development Tools, which comprise the Z-Wave 800 Pro Kit (ZWAVE-PK800A) and the ZGM230S Z-Wave SiP module radio board (ZGM230-RB4205B). The Pro Kit contains radio boards that offer complete reference designs for the 800 Series EFR32ZG23 SoC and ZGM230S modules, supplying all the essential tools for developing robust, high-volume, scalable Z-Wave applications. The ZGM230S Z-Wave SiP Module Radio Board (+14dBm) plugs into the Main Development Board of the Pro Kit and contains antennas for 868MHz and 915MHz frequencies.
