High power shunt resistors offer accurate measurement in high current applications

Bourns, Inc has released an extension to its Model CSM2F Series power shunt resistor portfolio, adding 12 new series. These new series provide riveted through-hole metal sensing pins satisfying the growing demand for accurate positioning of voltage sense points in high current applications. These latest additions to the shunt resistor family are produced employing its electron beam-welded resistive technology that supports high power designs up to 50W with continuous current up to 1414A. Furthermore, these new series are created with a metal alloy resistive element that provides a thermal EMF as low as 0.25µV/K.

Offered in two or three tin-plated copper pin options, the new series with additional sensing pins provides a third pin option connected to the circuit's ground side. The three-pin design assists in reducing sensing errors by carrying the ground current on a separate path from the sensing circuit for higher measurement accuracy. The new shunt resistor family extension also provides a wide resistance range from 25µOhm up to 200µOhm, and a low ±50PPM/C TCR in the 20C to 60C temperature range. The new series are supplied in three different surface finishes, giving designers extra flexibility to match various customer environmental and soldering requirements. They are offered in four package sizes: 6918, 8518, 7036 and 8536 (metric).

All series of these shunt resistors are available now and are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
