TDK MLJ-G Series Fixed Inductors, available now from Mouser, are compact components developed for use in automotive Power over Coax (PoC) implementations. The inductors offer a maximum impedance rating of 2500-Ohm and provide less current variation when compared to traditional multilayer inductors. These inductors accomplish a high-rated current of 500mA despite the 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.8mm dimensions, greatly reducing variation in impedance during current applications. Also, these components provide assured performance at temperatures of up to +125C.

Many automotive camera systems employing LVDS transmission adopt a PoC approach, which superimposes data and power supply onto a single coaxial cable. By transmitting data as well as supplying power, PoC decreases the number of wire harnesses needed, contributing to lowering the weight of the vehicle and allowing space savings to be realised. Separating data from the power supply in a PoC circuit needs effective filtering that generally consists of two to four inductors. The inductors utilised for this filtering must have high impedance for AC components from low to high frequencies. This series of inductors boast impedance values of 1000-Ohm or higher over a wide range of frequencies, making them highly optimised for fulfilling such requirements.
