Isolated gate driver offers advanced integrated protection

Texas Instruments UCC21710 Isolated Gate Driver, available now from Mouser, is a galvanically isolated single-channel gate driver intended to drive up to 1700V SiC MOSFETs and IGBTs. It offers advanced integrated protection, best-in-class dynamic performance, and robustness. The device has up to ±10A peak source and sink current. The input side is isolated from the output side with SiO2 capacitive isolation technology, carrying up to 1.5kVRMS working voltage with longer than 40 years of isolation barrier life, 12.8kVPK surge immunity. It provides low part-to-part skew and >150V/ns CMTI.

The driver incorporates the state-of-art protection features, such as fast overcurrent and short circuit detection, fault reporting, shunt current sensing support, active Miller clamp, and input and output side power supply UVLO to optimise SiC and IGBT switching behaviour and robustness. The isolated analog to PWM sensor can be used for easier temperature or voltage sensing, further improving the drivers’ versatility and simplifying the system design effort, size and cost.

Typical applications include industrial motor drives; server, telecom, and industrial power supplies; UPS; solar inverters; and renewable energy storage converters.
