Cognex Corporation has launched the In-Sight 3D-L4000 embedded vision system. Offering 3D laser displacement technology, this claimed to be first-of-its-kind smart camera enables engineers to speedily, accurately, and cost-effectively solve a variety of inspections on automated production lines.

“Until now, 3D has been too expensive and complicated to solve inspection applications for most customers,” John Keating, 3D business unit manager. “The In-Sight 3D-L4000 breaks previous barriers by providing a massive suite of true 3D vision tools and making them as easy to use as the industry-leading In-Sight 2D vision tools.”

The device combines patented speckle-free blue laser optics and the widest variety of true 3D vision tools with the versatility of the In-Sight spreadsheet. This all-in-one solution swiftly captures and processes 3D images with excellent quality during an inline inspection, guidance, and gauging applications. By enabling users to place vision tools straight on a true 3D image of the part, the device produces greater accuracy than conventional systems, extending the types of inspections that can be performed. Furthermore, because inspections are in 3D, users can instantly experience how the vision tools function on the actual part.

The device incorporates all the conventional 3D measurement tools users demand such as plane and height finding. It also arrives with a comprehensive set of 3D vision tools, created from the ground up to support inspections in a true 3D space.

The device is supplied in three factory calibrated fields of view. It is ideal for applications over a variety of industries including food and beverage, consumer products, packaging, medical devices, automotive, and electronics.
