H-bridge buck-boost controller ideal for automotive applications

Maxim Integrated MAX25431 Automotive H-Bridge Buck-Boost Controller, now available from Mouser, functions with input voltages from 6V to 36V while utilising only 55μA quiescent current at no load. The broad input voltage range, coupled with the capability to maintain constant output voltage through battery transients, makes the device an excellent choice for automotive applications.

For light-load applications, a logic input (FSYNC) enables the devices to run either in skip mode for decreased current consumption, or fixed frequency, forced-PWM mode. The FSYNC excludes frequency variation and aids in minimising EMI. The controller provides a switching frequency that is resistor programmable from 220kHz to 2.2MHz and can synchronise to an external clock. The controller provides an output voltage of 5V fixed or adjustable from 3V to 25V. Protection features comprise cycle-by-cycle current limit followed by hiccup during sustained overloads, input UVLO, output overvoltage protection, and thermal shutdown with automatic recovery.

The controller is housed in a small 4mm x 4mm 24-pin TQFN-EP SW package.

Typical applications include infotainment systems, body electronics, start-stop systems, point of load power supplies, and USB power delivery.
