Texas Instruments THVD1428 5V RS-485 Transceiver is a half-duplex RS-485 transceiver with integrated surge protection. Surge protection is accomplished by integrating TVS diodes in the standard eight-pin SOIC (D) package. This feature offers a substantial improvement in reliability for greater immunity to noise transients coupled to the data cable, excluding the requirement for external protection components.

This device functions from a single 3.3V or 5V supply and offers a wide common-mode voltage range, which makes it ideal for multi-point applications over long cable runs. The device is offered in the industry-standard SOIC package for an easy drop-in with no PCB changes. The device is characterised over ambient free-air temperatures from –40C to 125C.

Typical applications include wireless infrastructure, building automation, HVAC systems, factory automation and control, grid infrastructure, smart meters, process analytics, and video surveillance.
