Fibre optic cable is laser-optimised to enhance system performance

Roline OM4 fibre is a 50μm laser-optimised fibre with extended bandwidth and available now from RS Components. The cable can be employed to enhance the system performance for existing 1Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s applications as well as future 40Gbit/s and 100Gbit/s systems.

The cable supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and OIF applications, providing extended reach upwards of 550m at 10Gbit/s for ultra long building backbones and medium length campus backbones. With a laser bandwidth of 4700MHz-km, the cable is also particularly well suited for shorter reach in data centres and high-performance computing applications.

In employment at low data rates such as 100Mbit/s or 1Gbit/s, the fibre is on par with the OM2 or OM3 fibres. The fibre shows its true strengths at data rates of 10Gbit/s and 40Gbit/s with ranges of 550m or 300m.

The quality of the connectors and fibres and an optimal assembly procedure provides extremely good characteristics in respect of insertion loss and reflection.

All of the company's Fibre Optic Jumper cables are duplex cables with fibre type 50/125μm and are violet in colour.
