DC-DC converters for thin electronic devices

Torex Semiconductor Ltd has launched the XC9307/XC9308 series as a new range of negative output voltage DC-DC converters.

The series are negative voltage output DC-DC converters in small and thin package of 1.8mm x 2mm x 0.4mm. Increased oscillating frequency to 2.5MHz, small parts with height of 0.65mm or less can be applied, including the coils and capacitors needed for DC-DC converters. The mounting area is lessened by approximately 70% (65.25mm2 to 19.11mm2) in comparison to general negative voltage output DC-DC, which can contribute to downsizing and thinning of electronic devices.

In comparison to a charge pump type solution, the switching method of the series maintains a stable output voltage even while the input voltage fluctuates. Furthermore, these new converters can support maximum output current 300mA (when VIN = 3.3V, VOUT = -3V).

Output voltage can be altered within the range of -1.2V to -6V utilising externally mounted resistors. The PWM controlled XC9307 series can be selected for applications where low noise is important, and the PWM/PFM automatic switching controlled XCL304 XC9308 series can be picked for applications where high efficiency at light load current and low noise at high load current is essential.
