Electronic fuse solution gives multiple protection options for power supply lines

Toshiba Electronics Europe offers its first-ever range of eFuse IC products. The range comprises of six products in the TCKE8xx series that support multiple protection functions for power supply lines.

The TCKE8xx series is offered in three categories: no overvoltage protection, 5V (VOVC = 6.04V), and 12V (VOVC = 15.1V). Each overvoltage category is also provided in auto-retry or latched options as the response after a fault event. The status of the latch type is recovered by the utilisation of an external signal, while the auto-retry can re-enable its output automatically. This gives developers with a selection of choices to best fit their application’s requirements.

The integrated fast-trip comparator can switch off the output typically inside 150ns. Moreover, an external capacitor can be incorporated to decrease inrush current by setting a turn-on slew-rate at the output as demanded. Provision is also offered to support an external N-channel MOSFET for reverse-current blocking protection. Typical applications incorporate the supply lines to cameras, cordless cleaner and power tools, server, smart speaker, cleaning robots, thermostats and wireless chargers.

Offered in a 3mm x 3mm, 0.75mm thin WSON10B package, the devices provide a typical RON of just 28mOhm and an over-current limit accuracy if ±11%. Input voltages of 4.4V to 18V are supported, and output currents can lie at up to 5A. Certified to IEC 62368-1, this gives developers using the series in their design a simplified path to certification testing of their end product.
