Static ceramic converters enable superior luminance

For laser-pumped phosphor light sources, Schott AG has developed special phosphor ceramic converter components, that powers high irradiance and superior luminance.

“The brighter solution from Schott offers the highest luminance as well as reliability and a high irradiance limit. The 100% inorganic ceramic converter material is soldered on the heat spreader to allow high power use. This requires a heat management to conduct the heat out of the ceramic sustainably,” explains Jens Vietor, product manager ceramic converters at Schott. “With the now-unveiled static ceramic converter, our customers can realise many different applications and designs, enabling high brightness.”

The company's ceramic converters have been widely used in powerful digital laser-phosphor projectors. They can also be employed other applications, such as in searchlights, medical lightings in endoscopy, life science, or stage lighting.

“Our ceramic converters enable lighting innovations wherever superior luminance is key and create new opportunities for product designers in all areas of laser pumped phosphor-based lighting,” Vietor said. The standard heat spreader dimensions are 20mm x 20mm x 4mm; customised formats are available on request.

The company's ceramic-phosphor material provides outstanding performance with exceptional reliability and is extremely temperature stable, heat conductive and bright. It consolidates the properties of a ceramic with a very efficient light conversion.
