Complete multimodal sensor front end for wearable health and fitness monitors

22-08-2019 | Analog Devices | Semiconductors

The Analog Devices ADPD4000/ADPD4001 operate as complete multimodal sensor front ends, stimulating up to eight LEDs and measuring the return signal on up to eight separate current inputs. Twelve timeslots are provided, allowing 12 separate measurements per sampling period.

The data output and functional configuration use an I2C interface on the ADPD4001 or an SPI on the ADPD4000. The control circuitry includes flexible LED signalling and synchronous detection. The devices use a 1.8V analog core and 1.8V/3.3V compatible digital I/O.

The AFE rejects signal offsets and corruption from asynchronous modulated interference, typically from ambient light, removing the requirement for optical filters or externally controlled DC cancellation circuitry. Multiple operating modes are supplied, allowing the devices to be a sensor hub for synchronous measurements of photodiodes, biopotential electrodes, capacitance, resistance, and temperature sensors.

The devices are provided in a 3.11mm x 2.14mm, 0.4mm pitch, 33-ball WLCSP and 35-ball WLCSP.

The devices are ideal for wearable health and fitness monitors and industrial monitoring.
