Mouser now stocks the Digi XBee Cellular LTE Cat 1 embedded modems, one of the industry’s smallest embedded cellular modems. Designed to help OEMs avoid time-consuming and expensive FCC and carrier end-device certifications, these embedded modems enable engineers to quickly and easily integrate secure LTE CAT 1 cellular connectivity into their M2M and IoT designs. The modems are low-power embedded modems that operate at 3.3V and offer sleep and deep-sleep modes optimized for solar and/or battery-powered applications. Transmitting embedded serial data via TCP, UDP or SMS over the cellular network, the devices offer flexible communication options, including a simple transparent serial mode and an API mode with structured frames for more advanced design requirements. A bundled data plan is available, with the modem shipping fully pre-provisioned and ready to communicate over the cellular network. The modems utilize Digi’s TrustFence security features, which include Secure Boot, encrypted security keys, secure JTAG, and SSL/TLS 1.2 cryptographic protocols. All security and feature updates are performed using over-the-air (OTA) firmware for added manageability and convenience. All products share the same footprint and software interface, so the modems offer a cost-effective, longer-range solution with a standardized footprint that allows designers to easily upgrade to exciting new technologies including LTE CAT M1 and the upcoming LTE CAT NB1. Customers can seamlessly transition from existing Digit XBee modems to this new modem with only minor software adjustments, configuring and editing data either locally through Digi’s XCTU software or remotely using the Digi Remote Manager interface. The company is also stocking the Digi XBee Cellular LTE Cat 1 development kit, which includes the embedded modem, development board, an activated Verizon SIM card, and six months of free cellular data service to allow for immediate development. The modems are ideal for remote equipment control, environmental monitoring, intelligent lighting systems, digital signage, and oil and gas sensors.
