GaN Systems has signed a new-distribution agreement with Ecomal Europe to promote and distribute its gallium nitride (GaN) high power switching transistors. GaN Systems' gallium nitride power transistors are based on its proprietary Island Technology and offer significant advantages over traditional silicon MOSFETs and IGBTs to bring smaller, lighter and more efficient power electronics to numerous applications. GaN Systems selected Ecomal Europe for its expertise in power systems and complimentary line card. The partnership is seen as synergistic by both GaN Systems and Ecomal Europe, as many of GaN Systems' prospective customers in the region already have a relationship with Ecomal Europe and its excellent technical knowledge in applications is particularly suited to GaN high power switching devices, including inverters, UPS, hybrid electric vehicles/electric vehicles and high voltage DC-DC conversion. GaN Systems is the first company to have developed and brought a comprehensive product range of devices with current ratings from 8A to 250A to the global market - its Island Technology(r) die design, combined with its extremely low inductance and thermally efficient GaNPX packaging and Drive Assist technology means the company's GaN transistors offer a 40-fold improvement in switching and conduction performance over traditional silicon MOSFETs and IGBTs, says the company. Martin Behlke, managing director, Ecomal Europe, said "We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with GaN Systems and its exciting products. We feel that this collaboration will offer great things for the industry and keep our customers at the forefront of a fast-paced market." Girvan Patterson, President, GaN Systems, said: "Gallium nitride devices are recognised to be the future of power electronics, and as our product portfolio is now ready for commercialisation, it's both key and timely for us to continue to build our worldwide distribution network. In Ecomal Europe, we are confident we have found a technically excellent and strong partner for success in Europe." Tony Astley, director EMEA sales operations, GaN Systems added: "I am very excited to be partnering with Ecomal Europe and looking forward to working with our mutual customers as they harness the full potential of this industry-changing technology."
