New Yorker Electronics now offers a new series of Vishay Intertechnology IR sensor modules intended for light curtain and perimeter guard applications. Offered in five compact packages, they provide a fast 300μs reaction time. This TSSP9 series gives long-range presence and proximity sensing up to 2m, and a range up to 30m for light curtain and perimeter guard applications.

In comparison to previous-generation devices, the fixed-gain sensors provide higher interference strength with no spurious signals and an output pulse width nearer to the optical burst length. Also, they give an almost constant detection threshold over their -25C to +85C temperature range and can identify a valid IR signal up to a higher DC illuminance level.

The TSSP9xxx AGC 0 is an excellent choice for fast proximity applications (~15ms) by utilising a burst pattern with variable intensity. The devices are excellent for sensing the distance to objects for robots, drones, toys and vicinity switches. They can also be employed as reflective sensors for hand dryers, toilets, water faucets, towel or soap dispensers, vending machine fall detection, and security and pet gates. To simplify designs in these applications, the series devices provide a PIN photodiode and sensor IC in compact Minimold, Mold, Heimdall, Panhead and Minicast packages.

The modules operate at a supply voltage range from 2V to 3.6V, offering a low supply current of 0.8mA, and provide carrier frequencies of 38kHz and 56kHz. The sensors are created to receive IR pulses from an emitter with a peak wavelength of 940nm. They are insensitive to supply voltage and ripple noise and give shielding against EMI, while an IR filter suppresses visible light. The complete series is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green.
