Constant current regulators lessen current temperatures in linear LED strings

Taiwan Semiconductor TSCR420 and TSCR421 Low-Side Constant Current Regulators are created to decrease current temperatures in linear LED strings. The devices are available now from Mouser. CCRs are devices that modify the voltage across a load to keep a constant electric current. The devices regulate with a preset 10mA nominal that can be modified with an external resistor up to 300mA.

The regulators can be used in multiple applications, as long as the maximum supply voltage to the device is less than 40V. This device has an Enable pin that can be pulse-width modulated up to 10kHz by a microcontroller for LED dimming while in low-side control.

Typical applications include automotive lighting, architectural LED lighting, emergency lighting, signage, advertising, decorative lighting, retail lighting in refrigerators and vending machines.
