Enhanced precision chip resistors offer improved tolerances and TCRs

TT Electronics has announced an extension to its WIN series of precision chip resistors with improved tolerances and TCRs. The minimum ohmic value is now halved to 5ohm, and a tolerance of ±0.05% and TCR of ±15ppm/C is now included. In addition, WIN parts are now available with optional SnPb terminations, allowing its use in high-reliability designs where RoHS termination finishes are not required. This represents the first in a series of planned extensions to the range of products available on the WIN platform. The water insoluble nitride (WIN) series precision chip resistors use tantalum nitride technology to solve the moisture vulnerability problems of nichrome and passivated nichrome resistor film technologies. Previously, this high reliability solution was only available in defence and aerospace related components but investment in a state of the art, lean process has enabled the company to deliver the same benefits to the industrial, medical and IT markets. One recent example application is in the design of power supplies for mainframes and servers. The need to 'guarantee' high availability of these systems places particular demands on the reliability levels of all components including passives. However commercial competitive pressures make the use of screened components unsustainable. This is where WIN offers design solutions that provide industry leading moisture resistance performance at an acceptable price point, says the company.
