Switch module designed for energy harvesting solutions

03-10-2022 | ZF Switches and Sensors | Industrial

The new batteryfree and wireless switch module from ZF features its patented technology using the EnOcean RF standard, specifically developed for Energy Harvesting solutions.

The company now offers a light switch module that can be completely integrated into existing EnOcean wireless systems. The EnOcean radio protocol is intended for a frequency band of 868MHz (EU, Asia) and 915MHz (USA). Within buildings, low frequencies are especially suited to penetrating walls or ceilings and provide reliable radio transmission. Also, the radio range is up to 30m inside the building.

The new switch module functions self-sufficiently and, therefore, eradicates the need for batteries and cables. The energy to send the RF protocol is produced by the actuation of a compact inductive generator (20.1mm x 7.3mm x 14.3mm).

The wireless light switch modules are compatible with standard frames found on the market and can also be combined with customer-specific control and design panels. For example, connected doors and windows may send RF signals to monitor the open/closed status. Other potential applications include smart industrial switches or stop pushbutton switches for buses.

An RF window handle and a switch module with EnOcean RF protocol will be presented by ZF at the Light+Building from 2nd to 6th October 2022 in Frankfurt on the ZF stand, Hall 9, booth B54.
