The YDS 04D-12-16 series non-isolating DC-DC converters are now available in SMD (33mm x 13.5mm x 7.7mm) and SIP package (50.8mm x 12.7mm x 7.2mm), from MSC Vertriebs.

Both ranges offer identical electric specifications. They accept an input voltage of 12 V (8.3V to 14V) and convert it into a user programmable output voltage of 0.75V to 5V that provides a load current of 16A. The 04D-12-16 converters, now available at MSC Vertriebs GmbH, have an efficiency of 92% that remains almost the same with partial loads down to 40%.

The 04D-12-16 series has built-in under-voltage lockout and short-circuit protection. In addition the 04D-12-16 features an on-board input filter, an input reflected ripple current of just 30mApp, a line regulation of ±0,3%, a load regulation of ±0,4% and a low output ripple and noise of 30′mV.

The specifications also include an ‘excellent’ dynamic load response and an MTBF rating of 6.704 x 105 hours according to MIL-HDBK-217F. The 04D-12-16 has remote sense and remote on/off.

Typical applications are distributed power supplies, network equipment, data communication systems, embedded computers and industrial controls. Compared to linear regulators power dissipation is reduced dramatically, says the company.
