Advantech has announced that its UNO series of IoT edge gateways have qualified for AWS IoT Greengrass, an IoT open source edge runtime and cloud service that supports the development, deployment, and management of device software. This means that its UNO series gateways (UNO-137, UNO-148, UNO-2271G V2, UNO-2372G, UNO-410, and UNO-430) are compatible with the majority of mainstream cloud services and prebuilt software components, delivering ideal platforms for cost-efficient local software development.

Integrated with AWS IoT Greengrass, the series IoT edge gateways seamlessly expand AWS functionality and cloud intelligence to the edge. For example, with AWS IoT Greengrass, AWS Lambda functions and prebuilt software modules can be employed to produce edge applications for stream analytics, machine learning, image recognition, and other high-value AI applications deployed from the cloud to the edge for local execution. Similarly, Amazon SageMaker Neo DLR and TensorFlow Lite frameworks enable machine learning inference to be conducted at the edge by using cloud-trained models. This allows local devices to act on locally generated data while storing, analysing, visualising, and decision-making tasks are conducted through the cloud, streamlining data processing operations and enabling the convergence of OT and IT.

To support various IoT and automation applications, the gateways are equipped with multiple I/O for integrating secondary expansion stacks and Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G connectivity modules that expand the system functions. They also feature edge container technology supporting third-party container-native applications and enable cloud services to be deployed as decentralised computing resources. By leveraging AWS Partner Network, the gateways with AWS IoT Greengrass enable OEMs and their customers to simplify, accelerate and optimise the IoT device development journey.

The gateways are rugged, fanless systems developed for easy deployment and maintenance in industrial, outdoor/roadside, in-cabinet, and hazardous/flammable installation environments. These gateways are also installed with the company's WISE-DeviceOn IoT management software, which supports data collection and visualisation, failure prediction/prevention, logic control, and remote management tasks. Accordingly, with AWS IoT Greengrass compatibility, the gateways offer highly applicable edge platforms that aid the cost-effective local development of edge-to-cloud IoT solutions.
