Mouser is now stocking the ADS1257 low-noise analog-to-digital converter (ADC) from Texas Instruments. The device is a four-channel, 24-bit, delta-sigma ADC with a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA) in a small 20-pin, 5mm × 5mm VQFN package. The combination of integration, high conversion rate, and 24-bit resolution together in a small package makes the device ideally suited for space-constrained applications. The ADC offers four analog inputs with an input multiplexer that accepts either two differential or three single-ended input measurements. The integrated low-noise PGA provides gain settings from 1 to 64, and the selectable input buffer increases input impedance, helping to reduce the need for external buffers. The ADC boasts programmable sample rates of up to 30ksps and high DC performance, with offset drift of just 4nV/degC. The device can operate from either a single 5V analog supply, or 1.8V – 3.6V digital supply. It communicates digital data over a three-wire SPI-compatible interface to simplify digital connections with external controllers. The ADC is suitable for factory automation, instrumentation and process controls, test and measurement equipment, and medical electronics. The ADS1257 operates from -40C to +85C and is supported by the ADS1256EVM-PDK Performance Demonstration Kit, also available from Mouser Electronics. The kit combines an ADS1256EVM evaluation module with a DSP-based MMB0 motherboard, allowing developers to connect the evaluation module to a personal computer to test new designs.
