PortNote design kit for protecting USB power delivery

09-03-2016 | Digikey | Design & Manufacture

Digi-Key now stocks the Bourns USB power delivery protection PortNote solution and design kit. The USB power delivery specification enables data and up to 100W of power simultaneously on one USB cable. This PortNote solution illustrates how a polymer PTC (Bourns Model MF-LSMF300/24X) can protect the DC bus during short-circuit testing as recommended by USB 3.1 Section 11.4.1.1.1. The high-speed data lines for negotiating power, as well as the USB bus itself, require overvoltage protectors with low capacitance which are provided by Bourns 5V and 3.3V 4-channel TVS diode arrays (Bourns Model CDDFN10-0524P and CDDFN10-3324P). The DC link bus requires a step-down or step-up converter with a high current soft saturation power inductor such as the Bourns Model SRP6540-100M power inductor (7.2mm x 6.5mm x 4mm).
