Microchip Technology, via its Microsemi subsidiary, now offers a cost-effective eight-port PoE switch which gives guaranteed power of 60W per port for all eight ports simultaneously. Excellent for digital ceiling installations, the IEEE 802.3bt-compliant PDS-408G PoE switch operates noise-free with a fanless design.

Developed for enterprise connected lighting applications, the PDS-408G links separate systems such as sensors, lighting, HVAC and Wi-Fi access points over a single switch. The switch offers eight PoE ports, which is the optimal number for connected lighting and provides end applications further cost-savings from energy savings and lower operating expenses. In compliance with IEEE 802.3bt, the device gives a total of 480W, including up to 90W for any individual port or 60W for eight ports simultaneously.

The switch is plenum-rated and can be fitted in any air handling space, making it perfect for digital ceiling installations. Its fanless design gives the features required for buildings that demand noise-free and reliable operation, such as hospitals, offices and hotels. The device also offers other proven advantages of PoE, including safe power, simple installation, flexible deployment and remote power management.

The device joins the company's portfolio of end-to-end PoE solutions. Developers can use the switch together with the company’s extensive portfolio of 8-bit and 32-bit PIC and AVR MCUs at the end node.
