Thermal magnetic circuit breakers for high currents

The Schurter 100mA Thermal Magnetic Circuit Breakers, 60VDC RTS protects against overcurrent in circuits. These devices are available now from RS Components. The circuit breakers use an automatically operated electrical switch to disrupt the flow of current when an overload or short circuit is detected. Thermal magnetic circuit breakers do this using an electromagnet and bimetallic strips. These devices use a patented surface mount thermal fuse to protect against thermal runaway of power semiconductors such as MOSFETs, ICs, IGBTs, Triacs, SCRs, and more. They provide physical protection in cases where all software-based security measures have failed and separates rated voltages up to 60VDC. The devices are reflow compatible through mechanical activation procedure, and galvanic separation happens inside the RTS housing. They feature a small footprint with just two contacts and thermal fuse with integrated shunt. Ideal applications are wherever power transistors are used, including automotive cooling fan applications, ABS power steering, PTC heaters, HVAC, glow plugs, diesel fuel heaters. Industrial applications include battery protection, power supplies, lighting ballasts, H-bridge circuits, motor drivers.
