The Microchip MPLAB PICkit 4 In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer available now from RS Components, allows fast and easy debugging and programming of PIC and dsPIC flash microcontrollers, by using the powerful GUI of MPLAB X IDE, version 4.15. The MPLAB PICkit 4 is connected to the design engineer's computer with a high-speed 2.0 USB interface and can be attached to the target via an eight-pin SIL connector. The connector utilises two device I/O pins and the reset line to perform in-circuit debugging and ICSP. An extra micro SD card slot and the capacity to be self-powered from the target means the user can take their code and program on the go. The device programs faster than its predecessor and arrives ready to support PIC and dsPIC MCU devices. Along with a broader target voltage, the device supports advanced interfaces such as four-wire JTAG and Serial Wire Debug with streaming Data Gateway, while being backwards compatible for demo boards, headers and target systems using two-wire JTAG and ICSP. The device also has a unique programmer-to-go function with the addition of a micro SD card slot to hold project code and the facility to be powered by the target board.
