Magnetic sensors for automotive and industrial applications

TDK Corporation is extending its portfolio of TMR angle sensors with the TAD2140 type in a TO-6 package for automotive and industrial applications. The new sensor gives an innovative system-in-package solution for PCB-less applications. It incorporates two full TMR bridges, a dedicated ASIC for signal conditioning and integrated passive components. Like all of the company's TMR sensors, the device features an angle accuracy of ±0.2-degree, achieving what is claimed to be the world's smallest angle error of only ±0.05-degrees at room temperature. The sensors can meet contactless sensing from 0-degrees to 360-degrees over a temperature range of -40C to +150C. The sensor's high angular accuracy, fast response, and advanced compensation algorithms make it excellent for the optimisation of motor control applications such as BLDC motor commutation. Further, thanks to its small package size, the sensor is ideally suited for applications with restricted space, such as steering motor commutation.
