New automotive LED lighting controller puts the power in designers’ hands

04-12-2017 | Texas Instruments | Automotive & Transport

Texas Instruments has introduced what is claimed to be the first three-channel high-side linear automotive LED controller without internal MOSFETs offering designers greater flexibility for their lighting designs. The TPS92830-Q1’s novel architecture allows higher power and greater thermal dissipation than conventional LED controllers, and are especially beneficial for automotive LED lighting applications requiring high performance and reliability. Conventional LED drivers combine the MOSFET, which limits designers’ ability to customise features. With this type of driver, designers frequently must make significant design changes to achieve the desired system performance. The LED controller’s flexible on-board features give designers the option to select the best MOSFET for their system requirements. With this new approach, designers can quickly and efficiently optimise their lighting power designs for automotive system requirements and desired dimming features.
