Engineering distribution giant Mouser Electronics gave their new partner Grant Imahara a sneak peek behind the scenes with a tour of the Mouser warehouse.

Celebrity engineer Grant Imahara is famed for taking on urban legends in Mythbusters, but far from being just a tv personality, Grant had engineering in his bones. He gained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California and was a maker from the beginning. Grant built a stellar career, working in movie special effects as an animatronics engineer and model maker for George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic. He worked on blockbuster films, including Jurassic Park: The Lost World and The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. Yeah, that’s right, he worked on R2-D2.

Grant was taken aback by the sheer scale of the Mouser warehouse

Grant was taken aback by the sheer scale of the Mouser warehouse but the engineer in him was more intrigued by the lift device used by employees all around him. Surrounded by shelves upon shelves of engineering parts, Christmas had definitely come early for Grant, who likened the organised precision of the Mouser warehouse to Santa’s workshop.

Everything in the Mouser Electronics warehouse has been tailored to maximise efficiency and accuracy

Despite being a huge name in the world of electronics, Mouser still depends on human accuracy for large aspects of their orders. Many of their customers order small, specific amounts of items that are counted and collected by hand.

Grant Imahara was a long-standing Mouser Electronics customer and ordered from them for 20 years, so he jumped at the chance to partner with them on the “Empower Innovation Together” project. When Grant first left college, he ordered from Mouser and found precisely what he was looking for; their products were reasonably priced and always in stock, there was no minimum order, and they had excellent customer service.

He never looked back and continued using Mouser products for some of his biggest designs, including R2-D2 and the Energizer Bunny. “Their components have been a part of the DNA of almost all my major projects. It’s always been a great experience; so when they reached out to me with the ‘Empowering Innovation Together’ campaign, I was truly excited about the opportunity. I’m looking forward to working with Mouser to empower and inspire more engineers like me.”

Empower Innovation Together

The “Empower Innovation Together” collaboration aims to engage with young engineers and add fuel to the culture of inventive thinking. Grant Imahara is a face many young engineers identify with and have grown up watching, so his legitimate loyalty to Mouser helps those starting out find a brand they can trust. Grant hosted several webisode videos with Mouser Electronics, featuring the newest products and expert advice as part of the partnership. You can view the series in the YouTube playlist below.
