A new range of heavy-duty, sealed linear position sensors, for extreme
operational environments, has been introduced by Variohm EuroSensor.
The new Novotechnik LWX series builds upon the successful LWG rod-actuated
potentiometric design with additional sealing to IP67 protection rating and
features a new patented pressure equalisation technology that prevents 'pump
effect' pressure build up.
Aimed at extended-life and high-reliability linear position measurement
applications in construction equipment, agricultural machinery and severe
industrial automation environments, the LWX series is available in various
electrical stroke lengths up to 750mm, providing absolute measurement with
resolution to 0.01mm and linearity up to 0.04%.
The all-metal design includes a sturdy anodised aluminium housing with a
stainless steel actuator rod supported in twin bearings with a backlash-free
pivot head mounting on rod and body ends that allows up to +/- 12.5 degrees
free movement. The fully-sealed unit is rated for 50 million movements and
will suit operation in extreme environments including high-pressure
washdown, water, oil and other contaminants.
Novotechnik's 'unique' conductive plastic resistance element technology
features specialised multiple printed ink technologies with multi-fingered
precious metal wipers in a novel elastomer damping mechanism that maintains
complete and even contact even under the most arduous shock and vibration
conditions.
The LWX series environmental specifications include a vibration rating from
5 to 2000Hz at up to 20g, and shock rating to 50g for 11ms, says the
company.
