RS - Cortex-M3 Core based tool for rapid prototyping with microcontrollers

Latest from RS components is the ARM mbed LPC1768 Module, a tool for rapid prototyping with microcontrollers. It has a Cortex-M3 Core LPC1768 microcontroller, 96MHz with 512KB Flash memory, 64KB RAM, Ethernet, USB, CAN, SPI, I²C and GPIO interfaces. The format is a 40-pin DIP module, board size: 44mm x 26mm, Powered by USB or +4.5 to +9V applied to VIN. Current consumption: <200mA (~100mA with Ethernet disabled)

There is a Real-time clock battery backup input. +3.3V regulated output on VOUT to power peripherals, +5V available on VU (only when USB is connected), limited to 500mA. The Digital I/O pins are rated at: +3.3V, 40mA each, 400mA max. A special feature is on-line code compilation available from the mbed website when registered. RS provides a special adapter which is available to allow the module to work with the RS Embedded Development Platform (EDP). The EDP has a further module with functions such as communications, analogue input/outputs, digital input / outputs and motor control modules to allow for further prototype development, says the company.
