A new low-cost configurable OLED, LCD and TFT graphics processor, which can
interface with a wide range of popular LCD and OLED displays, has been
announced by Saelig.
In a tiny 6mm x 6mm 28pin QFN package, the GOLDELOX-GFX implements a set of
integrated high-level graphics and I/O functions controlled by 'EVE'
(Extensible Virtual Engine).
Additional capabilities such as digital I/O ports, built-in 8/10 bit A/D,
16-bit free-running timer, complex sound generation, joystick support,
1-wire and SPI interface (e.g. for memory cards) means that the device may
be the only processor needed for a design.
Users can choose the display that fits their application, interface it to
the GOLDELOX-GFX on a PCB and choose the I/O depending on individual system
needs. Then, select the available GOLDELOX PmmC file that matches the
display driver IC (e.g. GOLDELOX-GFX- 1339.pmmc for SSD1339 display IC from
Solomon) and download this into the GOLDELOX-GFX chip via the serial port,
for a fast, powerful single chip graphics user-interface solution. Write
code in 4DGL using the 4D Workshop (editor and compiler) and save weeks or
months of development time on your next embedded graphics project. 4DGL is a
graphics oriented language allowing the developer to write applications in a
high level language, syntax similar to popular languages such as BASIC, C
and Pascal, and it works with any colour display that supports an 80-Series
8 bit wide CPU interface.
For complex applications, users can off-load their graphics overhead to the
GOLDELOX-GFX and send simple serial commands from a favourite host processor
to perform the required actions. All of the LCD and OLED built-in driver
libraries implement and share the same high-level function interface. This
allows the GUI application to be portable to different display controller
types.
The software development tools 4DGL Workshop and Graphics Composer are
provided free, with no licensing requirements. Development is rapid, due to
an ever increasing range of available ready-made modules and prototyping
boards.
Requiring 3.6 - 6V at 40mA, GOLDELOX-GFX is an ideal graphics controller for
handheld test and measurement equipment, point-of-sale terminals, control
systems, instrumentation, electronic gauges and meters, portable medical
units, data- loggers, game machines, says the company.
