Welcome to Electropages.comElectropages.com is major UK-based portal that services the needs of electronics engineers and designers. The site is divided into nine core sections: homepage, product news, industry directory, about us, contact us, add your website, advertise, submit your PR, and an e-newsletter sign-up page. The most extensive of these sections is the product news page which provides full and comprehensive information for the Mouser range of passive components and semiconductors. Close to 150 different products are featured, and include everything from simple capacitors to integrated microprocessor boards. Each product item is accompanied by a photograph and details regarding availability. The e-newsletter sign-up page is an especially popular option: site visitors are encouraged to subscribe to this free publication which contains a wealth of useful information. Also popular is the submit your PR section. Here, manufacturers and distributors are given the opportunity to enter relevant industry news in order that it can be shared with other electronics industry professionals. All in all, Electropages.com is an excellent one-stop resource with a well earned reputation for providing comprehensive, unbiased and up to date news. |
MouserA household name to virtually everyone in the industry, this Texas-based company is one of the world largest and best known electronic component distributors. The company focuses on developing and introducing new products and technologies to engineers specialising in the field of electronic design. The company maintains a user-friendly online presence via which more than a million products from almost 400 different manufacturers can be ordered. In addition, the company produces a quarterly catalogue that offers up to date news and information about its extensive product range. Included amongst the many product lines that the company distributes are semiconductors, optoelectronics, passive components, circuit protection, interconnects, wire and cable, electromechanical, sensors, enclosures and thermal management, power sources, test tools, and specialty products. The company believes firmly in the importance of customer service. The company adopts (and adheres to) a policy of not stipulating a minimum order, and therefore appeals as much to larger customers as to design engineers seeking only to purchase limited quantities of semiconductors or passive components. The company’s distribution system is extremely efficient and stems in no small part from an integrated and fully automated warehouse management system. |
European distributorsA full list of European distributors would be too extensive to reproduce here, so mention will only be made of the some of the larger and better known European based electronics distributors. Arrow Electronique SA is a subsidiary of Arrow France and serves the French market with a comprehensive product range that features semiconductors, passives, electromechanical devices, connectors and computer products. Arrow Iberia serves the Spanish and Portuguese markets. The company’s product range of semiconductors, passive components, electromechanical devices and connectors make it one of the peninsula’s leading electronics component distributors. Arrow Iberia also has a division called ATD Microtronica that is dedicated to computer products. Arrow Northern Europe is sometimes considered the driving force of European electronics distribution. The company has offices with specialised sales and engineering teams in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The company provides electronics products, services and solutions to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers. Arrow Northern Europe offers an extremely broad range of products that includes passive components, electromechanical devices and connector products. Microtronica Central Europe is a major distributor. With regional offices in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, they are considered to one of the largest distributors for PC components in Central Europe. |
More European distributorsIn the UK, Microtronica UK is the number one distributor of computer components. Like Mouser in the US, The Company offers an all encompassing product range and stocks products that certain manufacturers supply exclusively to Microtronica. The company is well known for its marketing expertise and willingness to educate its customers, and as a result is able to attract some of the leading manufacturers in the computer products industry. Sasco Holz offers a seemingly unique distribution concept that involves customers in all steps from product definition to production. The company prides itself on having a well trained sales force who offer their extensive knowledge to customers in Austria, Belgium, Germany Switzerland and the Netherlands. Silverstar is generally considered to be Italy’s leading distributor of electronic components and computer products. The company’s extensive product range features liquid crystal displays (LCDs), subsystems, semiconductors, passive components, electromechanical devices, connectors and computer products. Silverstar-Celdis is a subsidiary of Silverstar and specialises in industrial computer products, systems and subsystems, passives, electromechanical devices and connectors. SPOERLE Electronic offers a broad product range, as well as design solutions and value-added services. The company is extremely active in Central Europe and serves Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and the countries of the Russian Federation. |
Distributors in South America and the Middle EastWhile distributors of electronic components such as Mouser are generally though of as being most active in Europe, the US and Asia, a large and growing market also exists in South America and the Middle East. Arrow, for example, has an extensive distribution network throughout South America, and maintains regional offices in Argentina and Brazil. Arrow Argentina services Argentina and other important Spanish speaking markets such as Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Venezuela and Bolivia. The company sells components, consumables and equipment to electronics manufacturers. Arrow Brazil fulfills the requirements of small, medium, and emerging Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in Portuguese-speaking South America by providing them with semiconductors, passive components and electromechanical devices. Customers have full access to both local and US product lines. Based in Israel, Arrow Rapac Ltd. is a distributor of passives, electromechanical devices, connectors, industrial computer products and subsystems. The company’s extensive product range is complemented by its supply chain management support to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers. Of all the distributors in the Middle East, Arrow Rapac is perhaps the best known and most dynamic. |
An overview of the industryIn North American in 2007, sales growth for the top 75 electronics distributors increased by 15%. Much of this growth was due to a strong and ongoing demand for computer products and connectors. In Europe, growth was equally strong. But despite this impressive growth, most US and European electronics distributors are less than confident about the future. The reasons for this, they say, are both the global economic slowdown and the fact that so much electronics manufacturing, especially high-volume manufacturing, has moved offshore to low-cost countries such as China, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Other distributors and industry insiders cite the trend amongst larger electronic companies to buy direct from component manufacturers. Hewlett-Packard, for example, is known to purchase nearly of all of its passive components and semiconductors direct from manufacturers. Nonetheless, many distributors such as Mouser are still confident that further growth can be achieved in Europe and North America. Many distributors are now attempting to develop revenue streams from new opportunities such as solid-state lighting and embedded systems. Some of these companies have created new divisions dedicated to light-emitting diodes, which are being used increasingly in equipment and lighting fixtures. Overall, however, the overwhelming consensus is that growth will be stronger in Asia for the foreseeable future. |
