Mouser

Mouser is a global catalogue and web-based electronics distributors, specialising in rapid supply of new products with a focus on design engineers and buyers requiring small to medium quantities. Mouser has offices and customer service teams in the US, Singapore, Shanghai, Hongkong, Germany, UK and Israel. The High Wycombe customer service Centre looks after the UK market, Ireland and the Nordic countries.

Mouser offers a broad product range in their one-stop-shop for all components and development tools required for a complete project design. Their components are sourced from more than 400 manufactures of semiconductors, embedded modules, optoelectronics, as well as passives, interconnects, electromechanical, circuit protection devices, thermal management, enclosures and wire/cable products.

Company History

Mouser was founded in 1964 in EI Cajon, California by Jerry Mouser, a Physics Instructor who needed components for the electronics program at his school. In 1983 Mouser opened a branch office in Mansfield, Texas, 20 miles south of Dallas airport. The company grew steadily along with the expansion of the electronics industry and three years later, in 1986, the headquarters was moved to the Mansfield location.

In 2000 Mouser Electronics Inc, became a subsidiary of TTI, a world leading distributor of passive components. This relationship allowed the two companies to work together and offer a complete solution to customers. Mouser typically deals with the small quantity orders for products used during the prototype stage whereas TTI takes care of the global production quantities. TTI's headquarters are based in Fort Worth, Texas and the US operation employs 1700 in over 50 locations in North America, Europe and Asia.

Since March 2007 TTI and Mouser Electronics are part of the Berkshire Hathaway Group. Berkshire Hathaway is a conglomerate holding company that oversees and manages several subsidiary companies; American Express, NetJets Europe, Fruit of the Loom and many more. Warren Buffet is Chairman and CEO and the corporate directors include names like Warren Buffet, Susan Decker, Charlie Munger, Bill Gates and Charlotte Guyman. The acquisition involved a change of ownership but didn't constitute any major changes to the management group, customers or suppliers.

Mouser Operations

The company has a strong focus on keeping their product offering up to date whilst providing an easy access to the newest products and technologies. This is achieved by printing a new parts catalogue every 90 days (every six months in the UK) and updating the online catalogue daily. Through frequent and regular updates they can ensure that new products are added instantly and end of life products are removed.

Mouser Electronics ships over 30,000 lines per day out of its 432,000 square foot Texas facility that include warehouse, offices, call and data centres. Their high technology warehouse has a wireless management system with pick and ship operations that allows for same day shipping for most orders received by 8 pm. Mouser ships orders globally to almost 300,000 customers in 170 countries.

The catalogue has more than 2000 pages and references over a million part numbers from over 366 suppliers. The online version also includes datasheets and cross references.

Services

Mouser Electronics also offer Cable Assembly Services, Cable Harness and Wire Harness Services, Device Programming Services. Other value added services include: Kitting, Tape-and-reel assembly of both leaded and SMD products, Lead forming to customer specifications (including cutting, bending, shaping), Custom (modified transformers), Custom power resistors (from water cooled to special connection points etc.)

Online Presence

The e-commerce solution Mouser.com allows customers to browse and buy online. The website searches more than 5 million products and can locate over a million parts numbers that can be ordered and purchased online. Apart from products, the website also contains more than 1.3 million data sheets available for download and over 400 supplier catalogues. Furthermore, Mouser offers valuable information through their online tools that include automatic reordering, BOM import capabilities, automatic order confirmation and live chat in different languages. A quick and easy to use part search facility helps visitors find exactly what they are looking for.

Along with the UK website, Mouser hosts a total of 39 country specific website worldwide in 11 different languages and more than 22 currencies.
