A new 5-inch UWVA TFT display module, the TX13D06VM5BAA has been introduced by KOE Europe. The display features WVGA resolution (800 x 480 pixels) and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The ultra-wide viewing angle (UWVA) LCD modules are based on traditional TN (twisted nematic) TFT technology with internal design improvements to enhance the optical characteristics of the LCD cell.

Many embedded, medical and industrial applications demand colour homogeneity to ensure display images are colourful and concise. KOE's UWVA displays provide 'IPS like' optical performance to provide stable colour uniformity over a wide viewing angle of 80 degrees in all directions (up/down, left/right). Excellent optical performance is achieved with a brightness specification of 800cd/m², a contrast ratio of 400:1 and an anti-glare polariser film.

The LED backlight has a specified 50K hour lifetime to half brightness, says the company. Mark Stephenson, general manager, KOE Europe, said, "We have experienced an increasing demand for high quality displays that provide stable colour performance over a wide range of viewing angles. For graphical user interfaces in many embedded and industrial applications the need for colour uniformity of the display image is often mandatory.

The new 5-inch display module offers a cost effective display solution giving 'IPS like' optical performance from a TN based TFT technology." A 40-pin CMOS interface supports 6-bit RGB which enables a colour palette of up to 262K. The 5-inch module features compact mechanical outline dimensions of 120mm (w) x 80.7mm (h) x 8mm (d) and an active display area of 108mm (w) x 64.8mm (h). Operation in harsh environments is supported with an operating and storage temperature range of -30C to +80C.
