High-current board-to-board connectors

The Hirose FX30B series of board-to-board connectors is now available from Farnell element14. The connectors meet custom requirements for high current capacity and the ability to absorb mating tolerances where multiple connectors are used. The connector features a novel design structure involving blade contacts on the header and spring contacts on the receptacle that are staggered to maintain sufficient deflection range in the limited space. This allows movement in XY directions of up to +/- 0.3mm and + 1mm in Z direction to absorb mating misalignment and dimensional errors. The gold-plated contacts feature four independent angled contact points to ensure advantageous contact. The effective mating length of 2mm also contributes to ensuring high contact reliability. The moulded guide posts on the header engage with ribs on the receptacle to provide leeway of +/- 1.3mm in XY directions to simplify the mating operation and prevent incorrect insertion. In addition, there are six keys around the mating face to make reverse insertion even less likely. Three different versions are available to facilitate vertical, parallel or coplanar board-to-board connection.
