Harwin – IDC options added to popular space-saving 1.27mm pitch connector family (Archer M50)

Harwin is expanding its popular high-density 1.27mm pitch Archer M50 connector portfolio with the addition of four new product series- including, for the first time, IDC cable connectors and associated cable assemblies.

Two ejector headers in both through-hole solder tail and surface-mount options are available. The surface-mount devices are tape-and-reel packaged for fast, reliable, automated placement. Additional IDC DIP transition-style connectors and IDC socket connectors complete the enhanced connector line up.

Designed to provide fast, reliable and cost effective connection using fine pitch 0.635mm ribbon cable without the use of special dedicated tooling, the IDC connectors are seen as ideal for medium to high-volume cable-to-board connection.

Complementing the range extensions, Harwin is also offering a number of different 150mm and 300mm long off-the-shelf cable assemblies.

All connectors are available in 2 x 5, 2 x 10, 2 x 13, 2 x 17, 2 x 20 and 2 x 25 positions. Archer connectors employ a twin-beam contact system with gold-plated copper alloy contacts which are mechanically strong and minimise installed cost, says the company.

Product manager, Paul Gillam, said: “Archer connectors deliver high connection density at low cost. The new IDC series ensure cost effective, rapid termination with secure cable retention and a positive locking of the mated pair. Applications will be found in many markets, ranging from consumer electronics through to the industrial, lighting and instrumentation and control systems sectors. One example would be marine navigation instrumentation, where good reliability needs to be combined with low cost and small space.”
