Avnet Abacus, one of Europe’s leading interconnect, passive, electro-mechanical and power distributors, will partner with Cymbet, a leader in solid state energy storage technology, and Tadiran, a leading manufacturer of lithium thionyl chloride batteries, to showcase the latest low-energy solutions for powering smart metering applications at Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2012, Amsterdam RAI, October 9-11, Booth B40.
At the stand, Avnet Abacus will host a demonstration of Cymbet’s EnerChip technology, a re-chargeable lithium solid state battery solution designed for energy-harvesting (EH) applications, where the ambient energy surrounding a device, such as light, thermal gradients, vibration, flow, motion or electromagnetic radiation, is used to provide product power for electronic systems, often in remote locations where accessibility is an issue.
Tadiran’s Pulses Plus product addresses the challenges of achieving extended operating life for smart metering applications, showing how the build-up of voltage losses in a lithium battery during long-term application can be overcome by using its breakthrough Hybrid Layer Capacitor (HLC) technology which, in combination with its 3.6V lithium thionyl chloride batteries, is capable of supplying high energy density and high operating voltage under high pulse discharge currents.
Alan Jermyn, VP European marketing, Avnet Abacus, said: “Long life and extended storage are two of the biggest obstacles faced by smart meter manufacturers, particularly for applications in remote locations or tough environmental conditions. Through the innovative technologies developed by our supply partners we deliver energy-efficient, high performance solutions to market, which are capable of powering today’s increasingly sophisticated electronic systems for up to 25 years.”
Product specialists from Avnet Abacus will be present on the stand to discuss the company’s extensive product offering, including sensors, connectors and discrete power devices from industry-leading manufacturers, which can be employed to support a range of smart metering applications, says the company.Electropages - Electronics Components News, From Leading Electronics Distributors.
