Stock of a variety of Android Open Accessory development platforms, from industry-leading suppliers, including Microchip, Arduino, Embedded Artists, and Digi International, has been announced by Mouser.

The open accessory development boards and kits allow developers to easily evaluate and take advantage of the device hardware, having full access to the same framework APIs used by the core applications and communication with the Android device through USB or Bluetooth if available. Google’s Android operating system for smartphones and tablets is an ideal open source software platform to spark design innovation. Android accessories can be any hardware device that adds to the functionality of the OS, such as audio docking stations, medical testing devices, and weather stations, says the company.

1 – Microchip DM240415 PIC24F Starter Kit consists of a 16-bit PIC24 dev board, a PICkit 3 In-Circuit Debugger, and a royalty-free licensed software library for 16-bit and 32-bit PIC MCUs.

2 – Arduino Mega Android Development Kit is an MCU board based on Atmel’s ATmega2560 with a USB host interface. It offers 54 digital input/output pins and access to a variety of “shields” with additional functionality.

3 – Embedded Artists Application Kit contains two MCUs from NXP, the LPC1769 (Cortex-M3) and LPC11C24 (Cortex-M0) with multiple communication interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, and CAN bus.

4 – Digi International Development Kit is built around Digi’s Connectore i.MX MCU modules with touch screen LCD panel and contains software and API extensions that provide abstracted access to embedded peripherals not typically available as part of the Android framework.
