Now available from Mouser, the FCI AirMax VS (Virtual Shield) connector system is based on a novel connector design that eliminates the need for interleaving shields by using air as a highly-efficient dielectric between conductors.

The elimination of these shields reduces the connector weight, cost, and PCB routing complexity. AirMax VS gives designers the flexibility to develop their present systems for 2.5Gb/s to 6.25Gb/s, and the scalability to grow their systems to over 12Gb/s without having to perform a costly redesign to the basic platform. AirMax VS connectors demonstrate exceptionally low insertion loss and crosstalk characteristics, and are available in both 2 and 3 mm centrelines to simplify signal routing with 3, 4, and 5 pair configurations. The line-up includes Hard Metric and High Speed versions.

Applications Data – rack-mount servers, blade servers and external storage systems. Communications – switches, routers, wireless base stations, network access / aggregation and transport. Industrial – Medical – T&M.
