Vishay – Ultra-compact bidirectional symmetrical single-line ESD protection diode (VCUT07B1-HD1)
Jul 3 2012 - Passives [More Passives Articles]A new bidirectional symmetrical (BiSy) single-line ESD protection diode, which offers low capacitance of 14pF in the ultra-compact LLP1006-2L package, has been unveiled by Vishay.
With a small 1mm by 0.6mm footprint and an extremely low profile of 0.38mm, the VCUT07B1-HD1 is designed to reduce the board space required for ESD protection in portable electronics, including notebook computers and smartphones.
At the working voltage of ±7V, the diode offers a high isolation to ground characterized by a low leakage current of < 0.1µA. Any transient voltage signal exceeding the reverse breakdown voltage of 7.3V minimum at 1mA will be clamped or shorted to ground. The device features a maximum clamping voltage of 15V at 4A.
The short leads and small size of the LLP1006-2L package enable a diode with very low line inductance, allowing fast transients such as ESD strikes to be clamped with minimal over- or undershoots.
The VCUT07B1-HD1 provides transient protection for one data line as per IEC 61000 4 2 at ± 30 kV (air and contact discharge) and high surge current protection according to IEC 61000-4-5 at 4 A. The device is lead (Pb)-free and complies with RoHS 2011/65/EU and Vishay ‘Green’ environmental specifications. Soldering can be checked by standard vision inspection, with no X-ray necessary. Samples of the VCUT07B1-HD1 are available now, says the company.
