Vishay – New 3W power metal-strip meter shunt resistor with values down to 300µohm (Vishay - WSMS2906)

Combining a 3W power capability in a 2906 size package, with very low resistance values down to 300µohm, a new Power Metal Strip meter shunt resistor has been announced by Vishay.

The WSMS2906 meter shunt resistor features a proprietary processing technique that produces extremely low resistance values from 300µohm to 660µohm. These values allow for increased accuracy in current meter shunt applications for industrial and consumer single- or multiphase energy meters. With a tolerance of 5%, the resistor can help to provide power companies with more accurate data to determine customer usage and to adjust billing terms.

The WSMS2906 features a five-terminal connection design and an all-welded construction that contributes to its superior electrical performance. The resistor offers very low inductance values of <5nH and a low thermal EMF of <3µV/C. The device is lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant, says the company.
